On Tuesday, October 27, at 11:00 a.m., the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of St. John’s is hosting a Multifaith Service of Peace at the Cathedral Basilica of St. John the Baptist. We are inviting all the other faith communities of the area to come together with us in a spirit of prayer, and mutual respect to collectively pray for peace for our troubled world. All are welcome to attend.

Topsail United Church will be holding a baked bean and touton supper with dessert, tea or coffee on November 7 from 5:30 to 7 PM. To reserve your tickets, please call the church office at 709-834-4567.

St. Lawrence Anglican Church, 1824a Portugal Cove Road in Portugal Cove-St. Philip’s, will be hosting an evening of Contemporary Christian and Country Gospel music on November 8th at 7 pm. Admission will be collected at the door, and refreshments will be served during the intermission. Prized by Every Soldier: The Story of the Famous WW1 Newfoundland Soldier Socks
Sunday, November 8th, 4:00 pm, 76 Queen’s Road, St. John’s
One hundred years after the women of St. Andrew’s Church hosted a sock social to raise money and material for the war effort, a documentary film recognizing all of the Newfoundland and Labrador women behind the famous WW1 grey soldier socks will premiere on November 8 at this historic church of national historic significance in St John’s.
The film looks at the stories these socks generated for soldiers and their families and introduces viewers to those keeping the knitting tradition alive today. Her Honour will be in attendance,
A Question and Answer Session with the filmmakers and film participants will follow the screening, along with an informal reception.
Free admission but a freewill offering will be collected. St. Andrew’s History Committee.
It’s Christmas pudding time again!
The Church of the Good Shepherd in Mount Pearl is now taking orders for traditional steamed Christmas puddings, made by the wonderful cooks at the Church. This year they are offering traditional and blueberry puddings. To order, call or email the church office. Puddings will be available for pickup on November 27th from 7-9 pm or during office hours or anytime after November 29th, Monday to Friday, noon to 4 pm. Makes a great gift!
